Very interesting article in eMarketer this morning (link below) reviewing some data from HubSpot showing that healthy usage of Twitter by small businesses can readily DOUBLE their pace of lead generation.
This result occurred once a business reached at least 100 followers on Twitter, so there is a brief ramp up period required with solid engagement to gain 100 "real" followers. With a bit of coaching, we've found that most small businesses can achieve that level of Followers within a few weeks.
There is truly no excuse for small businesses not jumping in and beginning to develop a healthy online presence...it takes minutes per day and can have a profoundly positive impact on their business.
The day appears to be here at last. Twitter is announcing their paid advertising model, which should generate meaningful revenues for Twitter while enabling businesses to better reach new and existing customers though this rapidly growing medium.
Some good detail in the New York Times article here - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/13/technology/internet/13twitter.html
I will post further about this as details emerge at the Chirp conference this week. In the meantime, take this announcement as a reminder that AYSABTU.
I am phenomenally happy with my new iPad. Not required, but with the ultra-slim iGo bluetooth keyboard that I already had in my possession, I'm finding that it will not even be a problem to author long-form content including presentations, documents, spreadsheets, and more using the office apps that are available.
It is a dark day for my laptop, and at some level, for my smart phone, both of which I think I will be using far less than I have in the past. Instead, I will likely just be working from the iPad.
