Location-based Trends and API in Twitter - A Big, Hot, Awesome Move

Thanks to MG Siegler @parislemon for pointing out a few indicators that Twitter will be including trends data as part of their upcoming geolocation capabilities.

This means that it will eventually be possible to see real, trending topics that are happening around a specific location, in real-time.

The implications for news gathering, large scale events, traffic patterns, and on and on and on are staggering. Even putting Twitter Lists and spam improvements aside, I believe that this wave of geo-tagging innovation could singularly solidify a long-term leadership role for Twitter as driver of the statusphere.

I can't wait to get this capability integrated into CloudProfile to help our users put it to use!
