Small Business Has a Big Appetite for Digital and Social Media Marketing
Great survey data and blog post from @lauriemccabe at Hurtwitz (link below) showing the rapid adoption of digital and social media marketing that is currently occurring amongst small businesses.
It's great to see some raw data that aligns with the realities that we are seeing in the more than 400 thousand small businesses that we have worked with, especially after the ridiculously off base Citibank survey that made some noise last month (http://bit.ly/42DRWz).
As stated in McCabe's post, "one of the most eye-opening findings is that small businesses are rapidly shifting their marketing initiatives from traditional media to digital marketing media tools, including social media, such as blogs, forums, Twitter, Facebook, etc., email marketing, search engine marketing and webinars and podcasts."
She goes on to outline why the the use of online and social media marketing is growing so quickly with small businesses who have historically been slower to adopt new technologies:
"In a nutshell, it's because digital and social marketing solutions deliver on the cheaper, faster, easier and better promise that so many other technology-based solutions don't deliver on. These marketing tools are often less expensive to use than such traditional marketing options as print advertising and direct mail-a small investment can help companies significantly boost marketing reach and return."
We see this happening everywhere, and are working hard to help small businesses take the right steps to take advantage of the power of digital and social media marketing.

It's awesome to see data showing what many small business owners already know -- engaging the social web is by far the best way to attract customers.
