Ribbit Mobile launches partner-friendly alternative to Google Voice
Ribbit just announced Ribbit Mobile, a next-generation telephony service that brings together smart call routing for regular numbers, web-based calling, social media integration, and voicemail transcriptions. In a world that is increasingly mobile and where communications are spread across many different channels, Ribbit may have a solid role in helping small businesses and mobile professionals.
You can learn more about the features via the ReadWriteWeb coverage (link below), but the three aspects that I think are most interesting are:
- Route calls coming to one number to any number of phones. Helps make your location irrelevant to callers and also enables big-company features like hot transfer of calls to other numbers.
- "Caller ID 2.0". Ribbit can help to add context to incoming calls by quickly looking up recent web activity by the caller (e.g. Twitter and Facebook activities, blog posts, etc.). I think this would be particularly interesting if it were integrated into the Engagement Stream in CloudProfile.
- Voicemail Transcription. Ribbit will automatically transcribe any voicemails into text that can be read just like an email. This can save users a lot of time and is another interesting feature to integrate into the CloudProfile Engagement Stream.
Ribbit was acquired by British Telecom in 2008 and is centered around a partner distribution model, which makes it potentially interesting to the partner ecosystem of CloudProfile and Mural Consulting.
What do you think? Is this an interesting fit for small businesses?
